Managing Our Member List

It’s an unfortunate fact that not everyone who signs up to an online community is really a human being with an active interest in the subject. There are spammers and spambots and all kinds of automated thingies that go through the sign-up process with convincing-looking names and email addresses. And many of them can get past simple security measures like CAPTCHAs (those things that show you distorted words that you have to type in).

We recently changed our CAPTCHA to the industry-standard and supposedly much more secure re-CAPTCHA, and one of the forum-bots got through it just fifteen minutes later!

Does it matter if we have “members” who aren’t real people? Well, it depends on the motives of the people who program the bots and send them out looking for forums to join. Some of them do it just for fun, or to show how clever they are. And others do it so that their bots can collect the email addresses of real human members and sell them on to spammers and worse. Or to get into our forum and damage it or bring it down altogether. Or to install trojans on your computer and steal your identity and your bank account and your entire life...

OK, none of that has happened (as far as we know). And if you keep your security software up-to-date and state-of-art, and if we do all we can to keep the Forum clean, then you’ll be as safe here as you will be anywhere on the net.

As a part of keeping ForumBondage clean, we need to review the member list regularly and to purge it of sign-ups who probably, as far as we can tell, are either “bots” of one kind or another or humans who signed up for some reason but have shown no further interest in our Forum. So if you signed up but didn’t get in touch about activating your membership, you may well find that your account has been deleted.

If you really are a genuine human with an interest in bondage, then of course you can sign up again, or contact the Admins and we’ll sort out your membership. We’ll be delighted to welcome you to our Forum.
