Recycling Old Clothes
I'm always doing things that other folks think are weird. Sometimes creative, but mostly weird.

Well, I adore my braided ropes. They are very personal to me. I got to thinking about storing them or carrying them. What should I put them in? Sure, I could have bought a bag, but why not make the bags a little more on the personal side just like my ropes? Make my own bags.

I got to digging around the laundry one day and remembered the old clothes that no one wears any more. Hey, it's clothe, right? Zero expense plus an interesting diversion.

The first few bags were easy. Cut the legs off of an old pair of denim jeans, cinch one end, and tada! Quick, simple, and functional.

I got a little more creative with another pair of denims. I cut the booty completely off, both back pockets together, folded in half, and sewed together. (I did try another pair with front and back, but that didn't work out.)

(Somewhere in there I cut the legs round-n-round in circles for two strips of denim approx 1.5" wide and 12' long. Can do old t-shirts round-n-round for even longer strips, but I haven't done this yet.)

I also did some old button-up shirts. The first one I did was strictly lapels with the pockets on them. Sewed that all around and even sewed a round bottom. Folded the top in and threw in a sliding sheet bend for a cincher and carry strap.

The other lapel bag that I did kept the buttons in the front. I did sew the buttons shut because I didn't want the buttons bearing the load and risking popping them out. The button are strictly for looks. Lapel pockets on both sides. I sewed the bottom together instead of tossing in a round bottom (lazy).

Been a lot of fun, and I still have tons more old clothes to play with.

So... the suspect-looking guy in denim slouching next to you is in fact your stock of rope...

I love the way you repurposed your old clothes!

Of course I also love what you're using them for!

RE: Recycling Old Clothes
Every single one that I've made holds rope. Well, ones that I've kept. The vast bulk of it is rope and things that I've braided.

One bag that I gave away was on old sweater. I cut off the arms, turned it inside-out, sewed the shoulders and bottom. This left the neck for the opening. It is rather deceptive when on a hanger. I think the person that I gave it to is using it to hold plastic bags in the laundry room.

You know, Nikita, really not that hard to macrame a bag. I think it would be an absolute riot to macrame a bag and keep rope in it. Yeah! Heh.
