Exclamation London Festival of the Art of Japanese Bondage 2010
The date for you diary: 2-5 April, Easter Bank Holiday weekend

Garry of Resistance Gallery and I met this evening to discuss the second festival and set the date, so everyone, including us, has plenty of warning this time.

We think we got it pretty much right first time but there is always room for improvement. It was great to have such an international mix of people, bringing together artists and bondage afficianados. Hopefully, next year will bring more cross-fertilisation and collaborations. We are very keen to have your feedback and suggestions. Here are a few areas to address for starters:
  • More substantial food on site
  • More workshops and more beginners' topics
  • Keeping floor space clear/more space
  • Improved ticketing for individual events
  • Extend publicity
  • Involvement of Japanese artists

If you know of anyone who should be involved and can contribute in any way, let us know. Hopefully, with your input, this thread will ensure the next festival builds on the success of the first and becomes a major event on both the rope and arts calendar.

If anyone knows of any artists featuring or inspired by kinbaku, especially Japanese ones, do try to get them involved.

RE: London Festival of the Art of Japanese Bondage 2010
Just had a meeting with Garry to plan the 2010 event. This time there will be an extra day due to the Bank Holiday Monday. The plan is to keep the ticket price of early birds that same as last year, but the full price tickets with rise pro-rata. Hopefully, we should have tickets on sale soon.

The opening night will be the arts night this time where we plan to bring even more interesting contributors and collaborators together to display their work.

On Saturday and Sunday, by popular demand, there will be more workshops and tutorials, with greater emphasis on the introductory elements.

Saturday night will be the main party. It's going to be a tough act to follow the first one but I reckon, if we could pull that off in 7 weeks, with a few months we stand a chance. There were a few very notable absentees due to the short notice last time so we plan to get in early this time round.

On Sunday night, we will have a rope free for all with plenty of mats and suspension points, plus plenty of expert guidance on hand. There will also be a movie theatre for you to chill out when you have had enough rope.

The final day, Monday, will be the most Japanese themed day with presentations on Japanese arts/culture and Nawashi Murakawa's popular Salon Kinbaku life drawing sessions.

Although we got it mostly right first time, there were a few lessons to be learned. For a start, we have already set the wheels in motion to get proper on-site catering to save your scouring the streets of Bethnal Green for sustinance. I'm convinced the next will be bigger and better. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to make them. If you can think of anyone who should be involved, let us know. We are looking for helpers, artists, riggers, publicity whores, sponsors...just about anything and everything!
